The 14 Day Miracle Transformation
Published in Paperback by Booksworks Publishing (06 January, 2003)
Author: Tony Books Avilez
Average review score:

Great training motivator
At first I was skeptical of what this diet/training program could do in just 14 days, however, I stuck to most of the program and really felt a difference. Although it was difficult for me to give up fruits & dairy products during this time, I found ways to compensate and made it through the entire program. The cardio training is also tough, but like Tony advises, if it was easy it wouldn't work. It does work and I've learned that while it takes some discipline, the results and healthy feelings are worth it.

No Nonsense Commitment
I am a prejudiced reviewer. You see, I am a "Tony Avilez Guinea-Pig." I have had the priviledge of working with Tony as a one-on-one client over the past two years. In ripe middle-age, I am a physical testament to the validity of the insightful expertise and recommendations Tony shares in "14 Day." The "Miracle" comes when one trusts Tony's mentorship and makes a personal commitment to the effort required. He communicates effectively in this book the same no nonsense, get-busy information and support that those of us who train with him get in person. There are no easy solutions to feeling great - about our bodies, about ourselves. However, for those willing to do the work, the sage guidance in this straightforward book will guarantee results. No baloney.

This Really is a Miracle!
This is a no nonsense book that took me step-by-step to a transformation in not only my weight (I lost 18 lbs. in 2 weeks), but in the way I looked at food, diet and exercise. Ive tried nearly everything over the years, but nothing worked--This Book Delivers!

Absolutely the best!

Bad Day at Riverbend

Author: Chris Van Allsburg

Love 'Bad Day'
A teacher I was working in the classroom with read this book to her 4th grade class. I was hooked! I read this book to children from the 1st grade to the 5th. I cannot read this book out loud without laughing! This is a wonderful book, I love it! Van Allsburg is now one of my favorite authors.

For all ages!
Allburg is the best picture book writer out there. He gets a idea like a child would, such as how the cowboys in a picture book feel, and isn't afraid to go full speed ahead and explore it.

There's always layers to his works. An asset for all parents of young children.

Bad day at riverbend for ms voorhees book reports
It is a day like anyother in riverbend, where nothing ever happens, occasionally a stage coach will pass through, but wont stop, thats because no one ever comes or goes from the town, simply because theres nothing to be done or seen there. One day the Sheriff walks out into the road looks around, seeing everything normal, he looks down the road and then sees a bright light... and then it goes out. he wanders back into the station to ponder what the light could have been, a stage coach rides into town, with a horrible goo all over it, after several more discoveries of the "slime" the sheriff forms a posse to go after whatever or whoever is doing this destruction. Only for the reader to discover, riverbend.is.a.coloring.book.

I loved this book. this was by far my favorite chris van alsburg book ever, because its got the most irony of all of his books and is so well put together. he has such a great style with his writing and illustrations. I particualariy liked the part where they show the kids hand coloring in the sheriff. All young readers will enjoy this book, and older readers might just get a kick out of it too. enjoy.

Busy Day, Busy People
I recommend this book to everyone. The illustrations are captivating and fun. I remember looking through this book for hours. Wishing I was a part of the "Busy World" I would spot the same characters in different situations throughout the pages. That was sooooooo much fun.

I just found out the author's name tonight and I am excited! See I lost this book when I was a child. And plan on getting the story in my possesion again!:-)

Naturally I am thrilled, so get this book for your children. Because they will always remember the beautiful captivating "Busy People" and their "Busy Day" :-)

The Best of Memories
This book was one of the first books my daughter received from the RIF program (Reading is Fundamental). We spent hours on it, not only reading it, but looking at the people as they moved throughout their day. It brings back many wonderful memories of us together, looking, reading, talking, oohing and ahhing. Lat year I did a thourough search on the net for it and couldn't find it...Now, it seems to have made a comeback. I am so happy! I hope to get a copy for my daughter for Christmas. She is 32...but sh!...don't tell her I found it...I want it to be a surprise! :)

Son's favorite
Beautiful and interesting illustrations--Lots for my 2 1/2 year old to look at. He loves this book-and finds new things everytime he looks at it.

The Great Big Burger Book: 100 New and Classic Recipes for Mouthwatering Burgers Every Day Every Way
Published in Paperback by Harvard Common Pr (April, 2003)
Authors: Jane Murphy and Liz Yeh Singh
Average review score:

Packed with one hundred recipes for lip-smacking burgers
The collaborative effort of culinary expert Jane Murphy and food writer/recipe tester Liz Yeh Singh, The Great Big Burger Book is packed with one hundred recipes for lip-smacking burgers, ranging from such exotic offers as Shrimp Gumbo Burgers and Japanese Rice Burgers with Chicken Teriyaki, to brussel sprout, apple, and walnut burgers, and more. Recommendations for ingredient sources, along with tips, tricks, and techniques for preparing meat in general, round out this first-rate and highly recommended cookbook for folks of all kitchen skill and experience levels.

Terrific recipes
This book is yummy. The health-conscious authors offer lots of alternatives for the non-beef eaters among us and their burger toppings are great. The factoids and restaurant mentions that garnish the pages are fun, too. Highly recommended.

Tired of the Same Old Burgers? You'll Love This Book!!
Although I have eaten my share of burgers, I have always thought of them as boring. You grill them, slap on a slice of cheese, a tomato slice, whatever sauce you like and eat on a soft and often tasteless bun.

Well....along comes The Great Big Burger Book and with it a whole new dimension on just what constitutes a burger. Certainly there are the traditional meat (beef, pork, veal and even lamb) burgers, but my interest was piqued by the chapter entitled: Burgers That Take Flight: Chicken, Turkey and Duck. Using ground poultry allows you to cut the fat content of a burger and the recipes don't cut the taste and flavor. I have always enjoyed Chicken Marsala and when I saw the recipe for Chicken Marsala Burgers, I immediately tried it. Your family and guests, not to mention yourself will really like that one. The photo of a Bolognese Turkey Burger with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Green Olives looks delicious, and I'm happy to report that it also tastes as good as it looks.

But the book doesn't stop there. There is an entire chapter dedicated to burgers made with fish and shell fish. I haven't tried them yet as the weather here in Maine has been just awful this spring, and this type of burger should be cooked outdoors. But there are recipes for lobster and scallop burgers and since I love both, I plan to try them as soon as Mother Nature cooperates.

For vegetarians, there are recipes using portobello mushrooms, falafel, quinoa, tofu, eggplant and chickpeas, to mention a few. That chapter fittingly is entitled: Redefining the Burger.

Admittedly, there are ingredients that may be unfamiliar to the reader. For those people (and I am one), there is a glossary of ingredients and an ingredient source list which tells you where you can find the products that may not be available in your area.

This is a wonderful resource for entertaining. Your guests will be amazed by your culinary expertise when you serve them a healthy burger packed with new flavors. Your backyard menus will never be the same or 'boring' anymore!

love the easy readability, intense page turner.
I really enjoyed the easy flow of the writer but yet intense enough to hold your interest and now everything in the book is coming out in the news . I don't know if the writer had a crystal ball or what but it is remarkable how he predicted the situations before they occured. Intense and at the same time intriguing . I couldn't put it down.I am looking for other books by same writer.loved it.

CRANBERRY THANKSGIVING
Published in Paperback by Scott Foresman (Pearson K-12) (October, 1990)
Author: Harry Devlin
Average review score:

The start of a Thanksgiving tradition
It's an exceptional book that can give rise to a family tradition. The story of "Cranberry Thanksgiving" centers around Grandmother's Famous Cranberry Bread, and the recipe for the bread is on the back cover of the book. My mom and I read the book and made the bread for the first time when I was 4 years old, and 32 years later the tradition is still going strong. I still enjoy going to the bookshelf in the weeks before Thanksgiving to find this book and bake the bread.

The book's story is engaging, the illustrations are lovely, and the characters are memorable - who could forget wild Mr. Whiskers or snooty Mr. Horace? There's even a moral for those who like morals - don't judge a book by its cover.

Charming, Charming, Charming!!!
Who cares if the silver spoons don't match, or if the red hall carpet is worn and mended?!!!
Thanksgiving is here and it's time for grandmother's famous cranberry bread!!!!! I can almost smell it! It is a secret recipe, hidden in the...,,,, well, I'll let you find out for yourself when you read the story.
Maggie and her grandmother live at the edge of a cranberry bog.
Maggie has invited Mr. Whiskers over for Thanksgiving dinner and grandmother is not too pleased at the thought of him in the house! After all, he smells like seaweed! But each year she tells Maggie, "invite someone poor or lonely", so Maggie invites Mr. Whiskers.
Mr. Whiskers actually ends up saving the day!
The pictures in this book are very warm and charming, and the story holds the interest of my squirmy 2 year old, as well as my older children.
We read it often and have even baked the cranberry bread from the recipe included in the book. It's yummy!
A delightful story for Thanksgiving or any time!~

when i was in the 3rd grade
when i was in the third grade, my teacher mrs. higgenbotham read us this book, and then we made the cranberry bread in class- i thought that it was the greatest thing back then, even though everyone hated the cranberries! i am so excited to have found this book again and cannot wait to share it with my stepsister who is in the 3rd grade this year- im sure she'll hate the cranberries as well, but im also sure she'll love the book-

D-DAY (History at a Glance)
Published in Hardcover by Stackpole Books (May, 2000)
Authors: Randy Holderfield and Michael J. Varhola
Average review score:

Excellent Overlord Overview
D-Day is often presented in books, films and other media as a two-dimensional episode between Germans and Americans. In this refreshing volume, the significant roles of the British and Canadian--and even the French--forces are described along with those of the Americans, and the role of Ukrainians, old men, and boys forced into uniform is covered along with that of the Germans.

At the core of this concise, comprehensive overview of Operation Overlord--the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944--are chapters that provide detailed, minute-by-minute and hour-by-hour descriptions of the action on each of the five Allied beachheads. Sections on weapons and equipment, Allied and Axis leaders, aircraft and airborne operations, and other salient topics help to add depth and detail to these accounts. Brief but detailed introductions and conclusions clearly establish the context of the invasion and describe its effects.

Came across this book after reading another by the same author, a volume on the Korean War titled "Fire &Ice." Was pleased with it, so decided to give this one a chance. Very pleased that I did.

A day to remember
Reading this factfilled book by Michael Varhola has again turned my thoughts to all the brave young men who came to fight far away from home to free Europe. This book has many interesting facts and figures that I have not seen in other books. The research has been thorough and put down on paper in a way that makes it easy to read. This book should be read by everyone interested or have family who fought in this battle. Highly recommended.

Small in size, large in content
This book is a must reference source for anyone seeking quick information on the several aspects of one of the greatest military actions in history. The authors have examined, in depth, all factors of the June 6, 1944 landing at Normandy to include Allied and enemy forces, equipment and task organizations. Whether you are a reader with only a casual interest in history, a student, or a history buff, this book is a great information guide. Packed with well-researched facts on air, ground and naval forces, brief biographies of the key leaders, detailed equipment technical data, and personal battle experience of several participants, Varhola and Holderfield have put it all together in a form suitable for ready reference or cover-to-cover reading. Small in size (219 pages), yet large in content, this book contributes to a better understanding of the single most important military action leading to victory in World War II.

Days Between Stations: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (April, 1997)
Author: Steve Erickson
Average review score:

Haunting
Erickson's gift for seamlessly weaving multiple characters and myriad sub-plots, brilliantly unifying the apparent chaos of his worlds, can be breathtaking. In Erickson's visions, there is always a sense of order, of fate that lies beneath the anarchy and madly pulsating landscapes that he creates.

I have begun to accept that, like all great art, I will never have any assurance that my understanding of this book is what the artist actually intended. Perhaps that was his intention all along...

I am hesitant to begin a new book for several days...I need some time to let this one sink in. I find that this reaction is becoming a habit with all Erickson novels that I complete. This book, like "The Sea Came in at Midnight", continues to haunt me.

A deep first novel
Like other writers who cross their hard-edged fiction with elements of surrealism and sci-fi, Steve Erickson keeps you guessing about the realities and invites you into a world of motives. The three main characters are living through a world cataclysm, which only heightened my interest in them. Jason, a professional cyclist, moves from race to race, and affair to affair, with no thought towards his wife, who falls in love with an amnesiac stranger, Michel. I know it sounds like a soap opera, but no soap could implore the sensual depth in Erickson's writing, or give the book such a sad and longing ending. A great place to start reading Erickson's work.

Must Read for Screenwriters
Erickson championed cinemagraphic-styled narrative through all of his works but especially in Days Between Stations. As contemporary screenwriters venture to adopt powerful time inversions and thread their viewer's consiousness through the colorful tapestries of the subconcscious, works such as Erickson's should find their way to the top of any required list of literary influence.

Days Between Stations has special potency for screenwriters because of its inclusion of light and film as subject matter in the sub-plot of the story.

Dilbert 2002 Day-To-Day Calendar

Pretty good to start your morning with!
Most of the quips are on the mark and quite a few are very funny! Helps to keep things in a light perspective in these days of "here today, gone tomorrow" ! Found the Feb 25 one very relevent to that.

Why not five stars ? I feel guilty wasting so much paper. Wish I had an online version inbuilt in MS Outlook. MS and Scott Adams - now that is some combination!

Dilbert Says It All
If you work in a "cube" and work for corporate America, you can't help but appreciate Dilbert and his co-horts. While the comedy can be cynical, I think it's very funny...mostly because much of what is in the comic strip is true.

Hilarious, A Must Buy!
The 2002 Dilbert Day-To-Day Calendar is a must buy comic calendar! The comics include all of your favorite Dilbert characters like Wally, Alice, the Boss, and Dilbert, just to name a few. Every comic is full of uproarious humor. You'll love it. I guarantee!
